When you are considering divorce
Perhaps you are thinking about separation or have recently separated and are not sure what your next steps should be.
There may still be an element of uncertainty in your situation and you may be feeling emotionally overwhelmed.
At either stage, you may not be ready to see a solicitor or you may not even know if you want to separate.
How I can help
There are lots of different ways that my services could assist you in the early stages of your separation. Here are the main ones:
Listening to your story to provide emotional support for your circumstances
I provide a safe, non-judgmental and confidential environment for you to talk openly about your situation. This is very different to talking to friends and family. I have no opinions about your situation and you can speak your mind in the knowledge that everything remains confidential. You can be guaranteed to feel heard and understood. Speaking out loud can also help clarify your thoughts and feelings about your situation. This should work towards helping you to feel calmer and more in control of your thoughts and feelings. Receiving the right type of support at this time in your life will help you to think more clearly enabling you to feel more confident about making sensible decisions.
Answering burning questions you have about your situation
Family breakdown is an extremely emotional time and you are facing life changing decisions. You will have questions racing around in your mind that you need answers to but perhaps do not know who to ask. We can go through all of these together. The first meeting particularly is a fact finding exercise where I’ll make sure you get the right information (either from me, or where appropriate from other professionals and resources). We can discuss whatever aspects of your situation you have concerns about; personal, practical, financial, legal, children etc. If there is something concerning you about your family problems, then we will address it.
Providing information about your options
I want my clients to know they have choices to allow them to make strong informed decisions. They can only do this once armed with the right information. Providing information about your options will help clarify things for you, which should assist with important decision-making. I can talk through various scenarios with you and provide suggestions and recommendations when requested. Be assured that the decisions are always yours to make and in your own time. There is no pressure from me to take any particular action or make any particular decision.
Helping you to work out a plan for your next steps
Relationship breakdown can make you feel confused and overwhelmed. It can be difficult to think clearly and to stay focused on what you want to achieve. Through the work we do, I can help you to stay focused on what you feel is important and what you want the outcome of your situation to be. This could involve practical tips to help improve your situation, as well as suggestions for stress management and tools to deal with difficult emotions. We can work on simple action plans to help you take things step by step and know how you want to approach things. It is for you to decide what you want to do, not anyone else in your life. Being clear on what you want to achieve, will help you feel motivated to work towards achieving it. This can help you feel calmer and more confident about your situation.
“I found the meeting incredibly helpful and feel so much more positive about the next part of the journey that I’m about to embark on. Thanks again for an immensely useful meeting and I very much look forward to working with you. “ – AB from Surrey
