Witness Familiarisation Training for Family Court

Giving Evidence in family court

If you’re due to give evidence in the family court, it’s natural to feel nervous or unsure about what to expect.

My Witness Familiarisation Training is designed to help you feel calm, confident, and fully prepared for your day in court so you can give your best evidence clearly and effectively.

I’m Rhiannon Ford, a divorce consultant and former family law solicitor, and I’ve supported many clients who needed to attend court as a witness. This training helps you understand the process, manage anxiety, and build confidence before you step into the courtroom.

What Is Witness Familiarisation Training?

Witness familiarisation is a practical, supportive session that helps you understand what will happen on the day of your hearing and how to present your evidence in the clearest way possible.

It’s not about telling you what to say it’s about helping you feel confident saying it.

During your session, we’ll cover:

    • What to expect before, during, and after your hearing.

    • How to stay calm and focused when being questioned.

    • How to communicate clearly and remain composed under pressure.

    • What to do if you don’t understand a question or need a moment to think.

    • Managing nerves, confidence, and body language in court.

Who This Training Is For

This session is suitable for anyone who may be called to give evidence in the family court, including:

    • Individuals representing themselves (litigants in person).

    • Clients working with a solicitor or barrister who want additional support.

    • Witnesses giving evidence in financial or children proceedings.

    • Professionals who may be cross-examined as part of their role.

Whether it’s your first time giving evidence in court or you simply want to feel more prepared, this session gives you the reassurance and tools you need.

“Thanks so much, Rhiannon, honestly your advice is helping my frame of mind and stress so much.

I feel more confident and in control. You rock!”

Why Witness Familiarisation Matters

Family court can feel intimidating; it’s formal, structured, and often emotionally charged. But with the right preparation, you can feel calm, organised, and ready to communicate clearly.

This training helps you:

    • Reduce anxiety and uncertainty about the process.

    • Understand courtroom etiquette and what will be expected of you.

    • Practise giving clear, focused answers.

    • Build confidence so you can handle questioning with composure.

Feeling prepared doesn’t just help you on the day; it helps you stay grounded and think clearly throughout your case.

What to Expect During Your Session

Every training session is tailored to you and your situation. Before we meet, I’ll ask for a few details about your hearing so that I can personalise your session.

Your training will include:

    • A walkthrough of what will happen on the day of your hearing.

    • Discussion of your role and what evidence you’ll be giving.

    • Practical exercises to help you stay calm and answer effectively.

    • Tips for managing stress, handling difficult questions, and maintaining focus.

After the session, you’ll feel far more confident about what’s ahead and equipped with tools you can use on the day.

Why Work With Me

As a former family law solicitor, I’ve supported many clients through the court process and know what it’s like to be on both sides of the courtroom.

My approach combines professional insight with a calm, coaching style. I’ll help you understand not just what happens in court, but how to manage yourself throughout it.

Clients often tell me that this session was one of the most empowering parts of their preparation, helping them to focus, stay composed, and feel ready to speak up.

“It was extremely useful to work with Rhiannon before court. It was going to court. I found it useful to get an idea of the court layout and how the final hearing would run. The work I did with Rhiannon focused my mind on what I wanted and also how to keep calm and answer the question. It seems simple but actually, it is easy to forget when someone is trying to rile you. I definitely found the work with Rhiannon worthwhile, and I would recommend it to anyone in a similar position.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will you tell me what to say in court?
No — I don’t give legal advice or tell you what evidence to present. My role is to help you understand the process and communicate clearly and confidently.

Q.Do I need a solicitor as well?
Yes. My witness familiarisation complements the advice and guidance of your solicitor or barrister. I’ll help you feel confident and ready, while your legal team handles your case strategy.

 Q.How long is the session?
The training involves a 2 hour session via video. This can be a standalone, or the client can choose to book further “top-up” sessions. The length of each top-up session can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the client’s preference.
