How to recognise relationship trauma

By Rhiannon Ford

Trauma may not be the result of one extreme event but a series of events over time.

Sometimes we don’t know we’ve been through a trauma until we’re on the other side of it.

It can affect both our mind and body, causing problems with…

➡️ remembering things

➡️ processing information

➡️ creating a hyperreactive response

➡️ creating a lack of sense of time

➡️ Decision making

Relationship difficulty leading to divorce can cause trauma. The person is then left dealing with the “symptoms” above whilst they navigate through their divorce. It can be very challenging.

It is important to get good professional help and guidance.

You may need to work with a counsellor but also ensure you choose an experienced divorce solicitor and divorce consultant to help with the legal process itself.

Don’t struggle alone. There is help available.

I recommend buying a divorce journal to record your thoughts and feelings. You can buy one here – divorce journals.
