“People who don’t have kids have such an easier divorce experience.”
Really? I don’t necessarily think this is true.
Everyone has their own unique experience, and any number of things can make a divorce easier or harder to manage.
I absolutely appreciate that my clients with children can have a HUGE amount of challenges around parenting, co-parenting, etc. And I’m here to help with all of it.
But for others, not having children at the time of their divorce doesn’t mean their divorce is easy. Far from it.
Of my clients who don’t have children, I’ve come across the following situations-
1. The husband didn’t want children and the wife compromised to save the marriage.
2. The couple couldn’t conceive.
3. The child died during the marriage.
One of my clients told me how someone made a comment about her divorce by saying –
“Well, you’re lucky you don’t have children though”.
She was very hurt by this as she had wanted children. And she explained that having children would have given her a positive focus and motivation to be strong in her divorce and divorced life.
We all have difficult experiences in life. It’s not a competition as to who had it worse. Your thoughts and feelings about your difficult experience are valid.
