Not ready for divorce: Mrs H’s Story

By Rhiannon Ford

Not ready for divorce?

No one makes a decision to divorce, lightly.

I work with many clients who are not ready for divorce but need a safe space to talk through their situation and consider their options.

They may decide to stay in their marriage or come back to me months or years later to move forward with a divorce. The decision and timing have to be right for them.

Mrs H kindly agreed to answer some questions about the work we did together.

What was going on for you that prompted you to get in touch with Rhiannon in the first place?

“I was having trouble in my relationship, saw Rhiannon’s advert in a magazine and kept it for months before contacting her.

Once I did, we had an initial meeting which was incredibly useful but it was actually over a year later that I did actually separate and needed her advice on a more regular basis.”

What in particular did you want help with when you first started working with Rhiannon?

“In the first instance, I needed some advice on a Plan B option of my husband and I not being together; practically and financially what might that look and feel like.”

What did you find most helpful about working with Rhiannon in the early stages of your separation/divorce?

“Everything was helpful! I literally came to her with a “right, what do I do now?” type approach and she took me step by step through everything.

It was just so reassuring in a potentially turbulent and extremely difficult time.”

How has working with Rhiannon helped you during the legal process of your divorce?

“It’s been brilliant so far; it’s incredible to have someone with such experience to advise you, I really do totally trust her.”

What have been any other benefits of working with Rhiannon?

“Just to know I have someone who is on my side that I can turn to if I have a question. She is also great at calling me out when I am being unreasonable – very useful!”

What would you say to someone considering getting a divorce as to how Rhiannon might be able to help them?

“Do it, don’t even think about it. My journey, though it is not complete yet, would have been so much more stressful without her – I cannot express the gratitude I have for her being in my life right now.

She offers something that, however well meaning, no friend or relative can, even if they have been through a similar situation. She is invaluable.

People regularly comment on how calm and together I am given what is happening and it is largely down to Rhiannon.”

Mrs. H is did remarkably well in what I know was a stressful situation for her. She was a pleasure to work with, maintaining a positive disposition. She was always sensible and logical in her decision-making. This stood her in good stead throughout the legal process.
