When is the right time to introduce the kids to a new partner? There is no perfect time.
What to consider
- Whether you are confident(as much as you can be) that the new partner is a permanent fixture in your life and not just someone you are casually dating.
- You have agreed with the kids’ other parent that it is the right time to introduce the new person to the them and you are on the same page as to how and when.
What to avoid
- Introducing the kids behind the other parent’s back. Not only is this deceitful and unhelpful for a constructive co parenting relationship but the other parent needs to be involved in supporting the children with a new adult in their life.
- Putting unrealistic expectations on the children to accept the new partner in the timescale and manner you want them to. Give them time and space to get used to the new situation.
